Celebrate! Our marble jar was filled and we are able to explore the Arctic. We are reading the book Arctic Tale and we will be watching the movie before vacation. We learned many things about the animals that live on this part of the globe.
Polar Bear Facts: Did you know that a polar bear can smell something 40 miles away? Did you know that polar bears are followed by arctic foxes? The foxes eat the polar bear leftovers! Polar bears can be 10 feet tall and weigh over a thousand pounds. Polar bear cubs stay with their mothers for about 2 years. Male polar bears will kill cubs to eliminate competition. Polar bears can mate with other large bears such as grizzly bears.
Walrus Facts: Did you know that walrus babies are cared for by their mothers and another female walrus? Walruses eat a diet of clams. Walruses can sleep while bobbing in the water. Walruses have two tusks that they use to crack clam shells and to defend themselves. Walruses are more graceful in the water than they are on land.
