We have had a busy week! On Tuesday a college student from UVM came to our class to talk about nutrition. We talked about how important it is to have a healthy breakfast to begin each day. Some of us made posters showing healthy breakfast choices.
This week we wrapped up our guided reading groups. We all read something about our solar system. When we return from vacation, we will begin new groups!
To end our unit on the solar system, we made posters that showed all the planets, our moon and the sun. We also had to write about a change that happens in our solar system. Some changes are seasons, day and night and Pluto not being a planet. Ask me about something I have learned about our solar system!
During math class we used the Smartboard to practice rounding numbers and breaking numbers apart. The Smartboard gave us a chance to move numbers around and explore numbers in a hands on way. Math class flew by! Some of us went on Study Island to practice our computation. Mrs. Lumbra joined us to give us some test taking strategies. When we return from vacation we will begin learning multiplication and division. Mrs. Sullivan would like us to continue to practice the subtraction strategies we learned.
Friday was our vocal music concert! We sang four songs and even played a song on the drums. Oreo thought we looked and sounded great!
One thing we are proud of is our contribution to Operation Holiday Homecoming. Our class has organized patriotic braclet sales with all profits to bring soldiers home for the holiday season. We have been busy collecting orders, inputing data into a spread sheet and distributing bracelets.
Have a peaceful and joyful Thanksgiving!

This Week in Review ( 11/9 - 11/13)
This week has been a busy week! Here are a few of the highlights!
In Art class we began making mosaics. A mosaic is a design made out of wood or tiles.
Mrs. Cioffi used Skype to call us. We talked to her class using our web camera. We could see her class and she could see us!
Oreo's Friends will be selling Patriotic Bracelets to support Operation Holiday Homecoming. We are hoping to raise money to help family members return home for the holiday season. Look for our notice in next week's Wednesday Weekly.
We went to a special puppet presentation called "Caps For Sale". We laughed as we watched different monkeys steal caps from the hat sellers. Ask me about my favorite part.
In math class we have worked on more than(>) and less than(<) which helps us with subtraction strategies. Ask me about a subtraction strategy ( using a number line, break a number apart or traditional algorithm). We are also working on using different problem solving strategies.
In reading we are all reading books that are about the solar system. Some of us have read Space , Midnight on the Moon, Moonwalkers, and The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System.
We all choose to write a paragraph this week on something that changes in our solar system. Some things that change are night and day, years, seasons and we even talked about how Pluto changed from being a planet to a dwarf planet. Ask me the three things that make a planet a planet.
We built paper clip models to represent the diameter of each planet. We will display them in the hall so you can see them when you come for parent conferences.
Oreo has had a great week. He enjoyed spending one evening at MVU's 40th Skit Night. :) He looks forward to many more adventures with his friends!
